The steering and power outages imo should be highly suspect to the most lame thinker amongst us, lol. No control but a mean veer to the left was doable.
Now about the tiny "explosions' flaming out and the puffs of smoke in succession as the bridge collapsed. Chalk that up to electrical breakage? Hollywood thrill?
Would the entire bridge actually topple from the single hit on the one end? Certainly it would no longer be safe, but in the river? Idk
It was a suspension bridge. That’s what happens when just one suspending member is cut.
Ships lose power often. Collisions with bridges is not all that uncommon. Thankfully, collapses are more uncommon but collisions are not. Nothing at all mysterious with it happening. Ships with no steerage go wherever the waves, wind, current and tide takes them.
Watching the video, a shorter version than I would later see, the first thing I noted was the smoke from the stack. Something was going on in the propulsion plant. Seeing a longer version, we can that the ship lost power at least twice and had smoke issuing from the the stack after the first loss of power, indicating a loss of propulsion casualty resulting in loss of power. Power comes back on quickly, due to emergency generator coming on line. Then we see smoke from the stacks, relighting the engine after it was improperly shut down, the loss of propulsion casualty. The ship turns to starboard (right) very soon after the power was first lost.
Once the propulsion plant was able to answer bells, if it regained that ability before the collision, they may have either tried to go full power and steer away or all emergency back to stop the ship or at least slow it down. Which action would be appropriate would depend on circumstances. They lost power at least a second time. If this too was due to propulsion plant failure, and it probably was, then there is little the crew could have done to either prevent the accident or, as many are suggesting, conn the ship into the bridge.
If they wanted to carry out a terror attack, they would have opened up the throttle full and drove straight towards the bridge without radioing ahead and dropping anchor. But they did lose power and propulsion, they did radio to close the bridge and they did drop anchor.
This really is getting be like the USS Iowa all over again.
You lose propulsion you lose steering. I we go out to our cars and start turning the steering wheel without turning on the engine on, is the car going to turn? Now, how about if the driveway is moving, say from an earthquake or land slide, is turning the wheel going to change where the car is going? Or, there are videos online taken by people who were in their cars when the last big tsunami here swept them away, do you think that they were able to turn their cars while floating away?
This is starting to look the explosion aboard the USS Iowa. After reporting that the explosion happened while loading the first round to be fire by that gun that day, a whole bunch of theories popped up about one of the survivors may have caused it by replacing the fire proof wadding or in some way making the powder more likely to ignite when the bags it was in contact the tube, hot from the previous firing.
A fully functioning steering gear cannot steer a ship below steerage speed.

I look for confirmation from other sites, and try to find the one with the most confirable info. Some I've been aware of for several years, just not enough info to present it. https://metager.org/ is a alternative search engine that turns up things that the least trusted google won't and DDG. TN Eagle Form keeps me informed on state issues. Even Subtack writers turn up with my answer. Passeen is one.

The Chinese are responsible for EVERYTHING that is not unicorns and butterflies.
Oh don't be rediculous, it's the state. For the foreigners.
I was being sarcastic. *Throws a water balloon at Eddie*
