Rocket fuel chemical is widespread in food, Consumer Reports finds

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/consumer-reports-chemical-rocket-fuel-perchlorate/#:~:text=Linked%20to%20potential%20brain%20damage,tests%20by%20Consumer%20Reports%20found.

***The tests by the advocacy group come decades after the chemical, called perchlorate, was first identified as a contaminant in food and water. The Environmental Working Group in 2003 found perchlorate in nearly 20% of supermarket lettuce tested. ***

Linked to potential brain damage in fetuses and newborns and thyroid troubles in adults, perchlorate was detected in measurable levels of 67% of 196 samples of 63 grocery and 10 fast-food products, the most recent tests by Consumer Reports found. The levels detected ranged from just over two parts per billion (ppb) to 79 ppb.

The EPA just issued an emergency order on a weedkiller that may be harmful to unborn babies

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just suspended all uses of a herbicide that is linked to health risks to unborn babies. It’s the first time in 40 years that the EPA taken this type of action.

The pesticide dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate, also called DCPA or Dacthal, is linked to low birth weight, impaired brain development, decreased IQ, and impaired motor skills later in life for babies whose pregnant mothers were is exposed to it, according to the agency.

Dacthal is registered to be used to kill weeds in both agricultural and non-agricultural situations, but is most commonly used on broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and onion crops.

“DCPA is so dangerous that it needs to be removed from the market immediately,” said assistant administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention Michal Freedhoff in a statement. “It’s EPA’s job to protect people from exposure to dangerous chemicals. In this case, pregnant women who may never even know they were exposed could give birth to babies that experience irreversible lifelong health problems.”

The agency suspended all registrations of DCPA on Tuesday under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act.

Refined oil is the worst culprit for bad cholesterol.

Fats are essential part and parcel of healthy body .

Far Eastern civilisations have always used oils/ fats for cooking but if you see the spike of health issues is since consumption of refined oils and processed foods has gone up .

Article I posted yesterday about green jackfruit which is excellent natural cure

there's no jack fruit around here where I live, but I agree it's an 'excellent natural cure' in places where it grows naturally (in tropical regions).

would it be possible to share more info regarding 'healthy' fats and oils? the discussion on omega-3 vs omega-6/PUFAs is complicated, I like using coconut oil (though I can't say why) and also I don't quite understand the health benefits, if any, of using old-fashioned, white animal/pork fat. thanks.

You can get powdered form of green jackfruit . Cold pressed oils are better . It is becoming a big acceptance by health conscious people.

indeed, I'll look up the cold pressed oils. at the same time I'm not a fan of powdered anything (powdered milk as an example of why I'm sceptical).

There is nothing wrong with powdered products depending who produces it .

It’s no different to buying wheat flour.

My mother’s cholesterol was 300 until she died at the young age of 95 and that was because she got Mersa in the hospital. She was there for a UTI.
