Great getting different perspectives from historical reference on where we are today, thank you.
I think of DeToqueville’s “Freedom In America” observation: “self interest rightly understood” vs selfish.
When sent by the French to find out “why is it working there but not here?”
Government by and for the people with equal individual rights for all people from our Creator, not Government.
Born (created) with free will.
Europe and DeToqueville never quite got there (yet), actually neither have we (yet), but I’m optimistic they (we) will.
That’s why we are here.
Excellent!
“Blessed are the Peacemakers”
For us to get there, we would have to agree on what free will entails, and more importantly, what we should do with it and how we recognize the free will of others. I don't share your optimism. I've been around people for too many years.
Thoughts, good and bad, come to all of us. Free will means we choose which to keep and which to discard.
That one thing, is the only thing that can never be taken away, only surrendered, even if at the cost of our mortal life.
All we have and all we need. Because it yields access to the greatest power in the world: faith.
Faith and fear are opposite ends of the same thing: belief.
Your choice, free will.
Splendidly put!
Unrepentantly borrowed and distilled.
