Thanks Edwin for posting this article by Mr. Shurk. I know, or have known, dozens of business people who have traded directly with China, actually traveling to the mainland to further these dealings. Not a single person has ever come back with stories of a great Chinese middle class. Conditions at the "labor camps" they call factories are terrible. Often, the workers live in small cubicles next to the production facilities where they work, in cramped quarters only a short walk away to ensure "control" and "efficiency." It's time for America to ditch Free Trade and begin concentrating on Fair Trade. It's hard to compete with slave labor.
True every word you say, Mr. Shurk, with one caveat: Manufacturing that returns to US facilities will be heavily automated - likely with Chinese robotics. The good ole days of USW-level wages and job security are gone, never to return. Even non-union Nucor makes steel with very few human hands touching the process. In effect, made in the USA with automated "slave labor".
ON TARGET! I'm sick of cheap Chinese food and junk. Read the food label, many say made in China. Walmart or Krogers. And the prices keep rising. Coffee up, even my yogurt was up a dime on Friday. Supposed to be on sale 2 for $3. I buy 6, as it is my night snack. Siggi's. Only one one the shelves fit for a Type 2 diabetic. 16G of protien, fruit puree, tad of cane sugar.
Bacon’s bill will be introduced as companion legislation to a measure introduced in the upper chamber by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA), which seeks to reassert Congress’ control over trade policy. The measure, known as the Trade Review Act of 2025, would require the president to give Congress 48 hours’ notice before imposing or raising tariffs.
The president would also be required to provide an analysis and explanation of the potential impact, while lawmakers would be given the chance to draft a joint resolution.
I lived in th North Georgia Mountains for a few years. There are lots of Florida's with summer cabins. The locals referred them as "Floridiots" I asked how they could hate people who brought them money, since none was being made there. At least they had some to pass around before it went to Walmart. The whole country has gotten into the same situation. To make money something must be made. Otherwise it is all varying degrees of rent. The most "productive" things we make are systems to keep track of rent taking or entertainments.
It is time for steel and copper, cars and ships. And those robots too that will make the labor point moot. That is a different conversation and I would love to read your take on same.
When Shurk is right, he's right!

Bravo, you have coherently explained for the general population how and when we were sold the empty bag of hope and change from the Democrats.
