"Doctors have benefited a great deal from the pharmaceutical revolution. They now have status, authority and power."
And money. When I need an anti-biotic (an anti-biotic that that does NOT require a prescription in other countries) I have to pay a doctor, who had nothing to do with developing the drug, simply to get her permission for me to buy the anti-biotic I need.
Why is this so? Is it because the medical profession and can bribe politicians to pass laws, so that doctors can get filthy rich without earning the money?
Around 500 RX drugs are still sold and dispensed to patients even though there is a Black Box Warning that they may kill the patient!
Unless the doc reads the PDR or has access to the Physician literature or checks Epocrates on his iphone, he doesn’t have clue just listening to the Rx salesperson!
It took 3 hospitals to Diagnose an easily diagnosed disease. What the heck is the educational status of today's Gastroenterologist? My niece Nikki has had GI issues since her 20s, all have been 'hard to diagnose so they say. Yet I a fellow sufferer told her right off what was wrong. Gastroparesis, Slow Digestion. She couldn't keep any solids down. Going at both ends like in food poisoning. She's had her gallbladder removed and Diverticulitis at 20. She now weighs 95 lbs soaking wet. I got down to 108. Took my Primary to run the Gastrict Delay Test, Gastro was satisfied with the Hospital's doctors' Idiopathic Colitis. Which did not fit at all. The only treatment is strictly following a diet designed to digest food better or faster. Avoid fried foods. Skins, hulls, and raw fruits and veggies. It takes time to strike a balance between what you can and can't eat. Eating slow, eating less at a time. So she is back home, and starving, wondering what she can eat. She was not too happy about how slow re-introducing solids was to her system. And learn what Supplements she will need.
Our Stomach bug turned out to be Food Poisoning from an Orange I made a sweet loaf of bread out of with Gates's crappy coating on it I thought I scrubbed off. The orange had an off taste, the coating was called Pleez, instead of Apeel. I need to put a new hole in my belt. The tummy still is tender. And not wanting much at one time. My fingers are sore from all the BS tests. My hub has Glaucoma and there is nothing he can take without driving his eye pressure up. Normal temps, and freezing, had to turn the fireplace on. And bundle under a quilt.

All those references have is the package insert, put out by the drug manufacturer.
I actually got Facts & Comparisons on my Windows Phone (that should tell you how far back it was), and you guessed it, only reference was the PDR.

And yet people die from the secondary effects of the drug, which is in no particular order:
Blood clots, blood thinning, diarrhea, blocked bowels, kidney infection, blood infection, heart attack, myocardia, etc.
