BRILLIANT article, thanks for posting this Edwin. Love the quote by Thomas Paine, too - one of my favorite heroes, a highly intelligent man with good values, common sense and wisdom. This article is a great summary of Dem party.
Sorry to tell you this, Edwin, but he was a serious alcoholic, and though he did win some battles it was because he didn't hesitate to sacrifice his own men. He also sold out Republic of USA to deep state to become USA, Inc. in 1871. If you know truth about "civil war" and the south, you wouldn't think very well of him at all. There's more I could say about him but I"ll leave it at that.
Oh I know all about the ‘civil war’ and the South. Read about it at the South Carolinian Library, the oldest freestanding library in America. Most of the letters I read were from the South, and they fought because they are down here, slavery wasn’t mentioned at all.
How could he be a good general if he was so willing to sacrifice lives of his men willy-nilly? My dad was a mustang admiral and taught me no officer should ever sacrifice his men so easily, it's part of an officer's job to ensure as few of his men's lives as possible are sacrificed - that's why there are mustang officers in military, they will always be the ones to ensure that the men's lives under their command are protected. For that reason alone, Grant was a lousy general IMO.

You are welcome.
Sometimes you just have to say to someone; "The problem with saying stupid things is that people will start to think you're stupid."
"Better to remain silent and thought to be stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
I believe that it was a general Grant who said “I can keep my mouth shut in 10 different languages.“
He was smart! Not a bad general either.

Like I said, pretty good general, and a survivor.
