The English were forever at war with France and Spain if they were not conquering the Celts, Scots, Welsh, and Irish. Then there were the marriages to settle the disputes. Children mostly girls as young as 4. IRA rebelled, and many on both sides died over Freedom from Great Britain. We had to fight for our independence from them. TAXATION NO REPRESENTATION though it was more than that. What I call Tyranny.

Excellent piece of history.

New Orleans’ history is a great example of this issue. The tension between folks in the American Quarter — English-speaking (primarily) Protestants representing the relatively new United States of America — and the French Quarter — French and Spanish speakers, mostly Catholic, who had long followed French and Spanish laws and customs (and fought against the British in the Seven-years War) — continued even into the early 20th century.
