Coleman is supposed go be a smart guy, but he obviously isn't very smart about dieting. His information is decades out of date and out of touch! He should review what happened with the contestants from the T.V. series "The Biggest Loser", because apparently their "traditional" diet/weight loss strategy seems to be where he is "coming from". Just about every one of them regained ther weight!

REALITY CHECK #1: a strategy for losing weight by cutting calories is a gigantic failure! Some one to two percent (sepending on which study you are looking at) lose the weight AND KEEP IT OFF! Why? Because the body always strives for homeostasis. If calories are CUT BACK, the body INVARIABLY will respond by lowering metabolic rate. ALWAYS! People may suceed in losing weight, if they cut back drastically enough, and if they exercise excessively, but the metabolic compensation will guarantee that they will regain the weight, and will probably have permanently lowered their metabolic rate, making it so they can never again eat as much as they could before they even started! AND they almost certainly lost muscle mass, further impairing weight maintenance and blood sugar balance! — increasing the possibility of developing metabolic syndrome if they hadn't already.

And Coleman apparently is quite ignorant of the fact that weight IS COMPLETELY controlled by hormones! I guess this is what happens to doctors that are too many decades out of medical school. They practice decades-old (out of date) medicine! Insulin, glucagon, thyroxin, ghrellin, leptin, adiponectin, cortisol, epinephrin, norepinephrine, and more are all involved in weight!

REALITY CHECK #2: His other completely wrong statement is the idea that meat causes cancer. It is hard to imagine how he came up with an idea that stupid. Himanevolved as meat eaters. No group of indigenous people on Earth have been vegetarians. Surviving meat eating hunters gatherer tribes tend to be the healthiest humans on the planet, with the lowest rates of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, strokes, etc. In fact the "diseases of civilization" are virtually unknown in those groups!

So, in my estimation, nobody should take anything he says seriously!
