The only budgetary item that matters is healthcare expense: MediCare, Medicaid, Veterans, Tri-Care. That's the problem and it's out of control.

In 2023, the federal government spent 32% of the total health care costs in the United States, which was $4.9 trillion. This was made up of:

Medicare: $1,029.8 billion, or 21% of total health care costs

Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP): $871.7 billion, or 18% of total health care costs

Veterans' medical care: $111 billion
